Calls for Peace and Unity in East Africa

Ethiopia, 1st February , 2024

FANO, a political & military movement led by young and visionary Ethiopians, is the fastest growing movement all over the country, and is ready to take power. FANO already controls one-third of the country & has garnered support from Ethiopians from all walks of life, ethno-linguistics and religions including frustrated and marginalized parts of the armed forces, and member of the ruling Party who are now joining the movement in large numbers.
Colonel Abiy’s days in power are numbered, and he cannot remain in power for long, and as such, is not in a position to represent Ethiopia in the international arena or get into any international agreement on behalf of Ethiopia.
FANO has expressed its concern over the ongoing tensions and conflicts between Ethiopia and Somalia, as well as within the East African region. It urges the citizens of both countries to avoid being cannon fodders and instead to pressure their respective governments to stop stirring public hysteria. FANO believes that a peaceful and diplomatic solution is the best way to resolve conflicts and tensions between Ethiopia and Somalia. This tension is caused due to irresponsible actions taken by Colonel Abiy Ahmed. He failed to follow due process of diplomacy and bilateral discussions between nations. Ethiopia, a Pan Africanist & peaceful nation, deserves a mature leadership to maintain its relationship with its
neighbours. FANO also encourages the citizens of both countries to work towards regional cooperation rather than fragmentation. FANO advocates unity over disunity, peace over conflict, and emphasizes what unites us rather than what divides us. FANO will work towards a common vision for the region and the continent co-operation based on African values and perspectives. Pan Africanism was a vision of the founding fathers of Africa.
FANO accepts the charter of OAU where countries unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity is respected. Despite politicians’ rhetoric, our people continue to collaborate, live integrated lives in marriage and other social units, worship in the same churches or mosques and live together without any issues. However, politicians bent on seizing and maintaining power indefinitely and at any cost, will always work against this peace and harmony, as it does not suit their purpose. As the threats of war and conflict make them popular, they work tirelessly to ignite conflicts. Colonel Abiy’s actions has made the East African region more unstable.
FANO believes the best solution for Africa is to have good neighbourly relationships rather than relying on promises of protection from Egypt or Iran. FANO also calls up on Egyptian elites to change the obsolete colonial mentality of sabotaging, divide and control strategy to a new approach that foster the spirit of recognizing Ethiopia as single ecological family of Egypt, Sudan & Other Nile River source countries. It is FANO’s firm conviction that peace, prosperity and security in areas stretching from Indian Ocean to Mediterranean can be achieved with co-operation of the regional countries and with the
help of the AU as well as other international peace loving community. FANO calls on Somalia to realise that all war mongering from Somalia side serves only to give Abiy Ahmed’s dying regime a longer lease of life. Abiy knows this. Ethiopian’s default setting is to close rank when the country is threatened, and he will do everything to escalate the situation in to a full-fledged war. Therefore, FANO urges the Somali
government to refrain from escalating the situation and play into Abiy’s hand. We would like to emphasise that the best way the issue gets resolved is by removing Abiy and his stooges from power; and that is being done by Ethiopian’s with FANO leading the way. Any armed conflict with Somalia will only delay this and benefit Abiy.
FANO is concerned about the war-like rhetoric and its impact on everyone, including the United States of America. William Burns, the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), visited Mogadishu to meet with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Mahad Salad, the head of Somali National Intelligence Agency. FANO calls for restraint in light of these developments, as it is only the dying regime of Abiy Ahmed that will benefit from this crisis.
Abiy Ahmed’s desperate display of military might, including his latest version of drones and second or third-hand Sukhoi Su-30, is not intended for combat but rather to stoke nationalism and cling to power for a few more months.
FANO views Abiy Ahmed’s policy as childish and of no benefit to Ethiopia, except for gaining publicity for himself and holding onto power by diverting attention to ‘external enemies’.
The Economics Team in our movement has examined the state of the Ethiopian economy vis-a-vis Colonel Abiy’s dream of building a Naval power in the Red Sea. Tob build a brand new port, infrastructure rail and road, electric supplies, warehouse and offices cost at least 10 billion USD. On top of that setting up a Naval Base, battle ships, missiles, radar and communication system, naval base defence systems, training
facilities, battleship repair system, airport landing fields and ammunition costs another 10 billion USD. Colonel Abiy Ahmed, let alone invest 20 billion USD, has failed to pay 33 million USD interest payment for Eurobond loan. It is clear for anyone to see this plan is not based on the economic realities of Ethiopia, but rather to feed Abiy’s grandiose delusion of

building a naval base and port in Somaliland that will serve his narcissistic personality. What the world should know is Abiy suffers from a mental disorder and he is not in a position to make a decision in the best interest of the Ethiopian people. Abiy has lost 75% of the country to rebel forces and he is only in office but is not in power. He has lost legitimacy, and is not in a position to enter into any contract with any third party. Ethiopians, Eritreans, and now Somalians have to be cautious to not to fall for his
attention-seeking mischiefs. FANO forces are 65 km from the north side of Addis Ababa and 40 km away from the eastern side of Addis Ababa. He also fears that His own home trained Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) could be inside his palace buying time to overthrow or assassinate him. Abiy Ahmed talks about his delusional and grandiose dream of a naval force while his palace guards are deserting him. He talks of securing access to the sea while he cannot drive out 50 Km South, East, North or West of Addis Ababa. It is clear to see that this is more of a bluff than a plan.
What President Issayas Afeworkie and Hassan Sheikh Mohamud may have missed is that Abiy is a mentally disturbed person who can have his daily kicks of Dopamine when people buy into his grandiose delusion.
FANO want to let the international community know that Abiy is no more the leader of Ethiopia and he will soon be put on trial. We appeal to the government of Somalia to avoid unnecessary hostility towards
Ethiopia as this only distracts Ethiopians from the regime change, but rather to ignore
Abiy’s grandiose delusions and let the people of Ethiopia do the job. FANO is at the gates of Addis Ababa and will soon be establishing an all-inclusive transitional government that will be a legitimate government of Ethiopia
